I don't know if you know this about me, but I am kind of a nerd. Most of my favorite movies and television shows are of the sci-fi/fantasy persuasion, I like to analyze chord developments and contrasting rhythmic time signatures in lengthy discussions, and more than anything I miss playing in orchestra. (There are plenty of other reasons why I'm a nerd, too... If you follow me on Twitter you'll probably find out for yourself.)
When I'm not busy goldifying, crocheting, and thrifting, I am a co-host of a podcast all about being a nerd. My friend/coworker Jim and I started it together when we realized he had never seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I had never watched Star Trek. We knew we had a lot of nerding to catch up on, so we got together to form a show about it and we called it Nerd Novice.
Each episode we talk about something nerdy, whether it is a television show, movie, comic, or book. There is a lot of entertaining/probably slightly embarrassing conversation in between. I do some Gollum impressions. It's an all-around good time.
I wanted to share this project with you, Rental Revival readers, because it's something I am involved in and have been for a year. I think it's cool to share some personal stuff I work on with you, because I want you to get to know me as Megan, not as a DIY blogger. I do a lot more than crafts. Besides, podcasts are fun to listen to while you're crafting! Bonus.
If you're a blogger, I highly recommend looking in to starting a podcast, even if it's a short ten minute episode here and there. Podcasting is easy, and it really isn't as intimidating as it seems. Blogs with multimedia can be really fun! I have a whole inner monologue on that topic, so I'll spare you any further discussion. But if you are interested, I'll go ahead and plug my cohost Jim's handy Audio Podcast Guide, which will help you get started. It's a great resource for podcast n00bs!
Just because I think cross-promoting is a good idea, I will be sharing with you a link to our (usually weekly) episodes from now on, starting today with our Episode #39, entitled "Suffixifying." Right now we're in the midst of a 4-episode series about the Harry Potter movies, and today's episode happens to be about Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire.
Jim and Megan are back from their unintended hiatus with another episode about Harry Potter movies, this time specifically movies 3 and 4. What's different about these movies from 1 and 2? It can be summarized in two words: Hermione's Hair.
Next week on Nerd Novice: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix / Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (and maybe a little Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in there too)
Don't worry if you're not an expert nerd, because you just so happen to fit the "Nerd Novice" demographic! I promise we will at least entertain you. Go ahead and subscribe to us on iTunes, while you're at it, and catch up on some old episodes.
I hope you like this other side of my Internet life! Let me know what you think in the comments below. If there's a certain show or movie you want to hear about, let me know and I'll tell you if we've already covered it!
