As you know, the pup and I recently moved to my parents' new house. The unpacking phase of moving is still going on, but for the most part, things are in their places and the next phase of moving is under way: Decorating! This time around, I am really focusing on an intentional decorating scheme, instead of going all willy-nilly like I usually do. I want this to basically be a practice space for one day decorating my own home. I'm pretty new at this. I have a lot of learning to do. I'm pumped.
Today I want to tell you a little bit about the space I'm working with. My new bedroom is in the front of the house, with three big windows, a walk-in closet, and an attached bathroom. Pret-tay sweet.
Currently there are no window treatments, save for the paper that is taped up with masking tape for privacy. That's a tradition in my family when we move. Paper on the windows. You know it's the next big thing. The other roughing-it thing is the mattress is on the floor, but that's only until the platform beds my Mom ordered arrive. The bed size is a queen, which is different from my old one (a full size that I sold when I moved out). And you know what that means--new bedding! This really is a great blank slate to work with.
I'm gonna try to avoid painting, not because I'm not allowed, but because I really want the challenge of creating a colorful environment without colored walls. I know a lot of you renters can't paint so I want to try and work in that sort of scenario.
Tuney's little bed is right below a place that I want to make into a gallery wall. It's the perfect location. I'm not working with a bunch of furniture, since I am storing most of it in the basement for now. I'm excited to make a big effect with a minimal amount of things. I'm already working on some craft projects that are going to be super fun and vintage-inspired.
So that's where I am right now. I'm still loving my neighborhood, and I love my commute to Cleveland because I am taking the Metroparks routes instead of highways. (It's especially awesome now that it's windows-open weather!) This weekend I'm doing a lot of work on the bedroom, so hopefully in a week or two I'll have some updates to share. I can't wait!
Oh, and speaking of my beloved city of Cleveland... Apparently they think I'm cool too! Recently, an alternative Cleveland blog called Fresh Water Cleveland reached out to me for a feature they were doing on local bloggers, social media mavens, and multimedia entrepreneurs. They wanted to include me on their list! I was so happy to be a part of this compilation, mainly because it is my first ever "press article" for Rental Revival and my podcast, Nerd Novice. Pretty cool!
Are you working on any projects around the house this weekend? Any tips for me while I decorate my room? Oh, and have you ever taped paper to your windows while you shop for window treatments?
